1^st (Madrid) and 2^nd (Donostia) December 2021

The 1^st International Congress on Education and Young People in Social Difficulty during the Transition to Adult Life – TRANSITIONS 2021 – will be held on 1 and 2 December 2021. This Congress is promoted by the Research Groups TABA, of the UNED, and Garaian, of the UPV/EHU.

The main purpose of the Congress, under the slogan The path towards full autonomy and social commitment, is to provide innovative responses to the challenges currently facing young people in general, and the most vulnerable groups in particular, in their transition to adulthood. Thus, the ultimate aim is to contribute to the improvement of socio-educational action aimed at young people and, therefore, at society in general.

The topics included in the Congress agenda cover the main issues facing those working with young people in education today: advances and results of research and knowledge transfer on adolescence and youth in transition to adulthood / in social difficulty; the training of professionals working with young people; networking: the role of universities, professionals, organisations and government; the process of achieving autonomy among young people: resilience, empowerment and social welfare.

The conference is aimed at academics, professionals and students from the fields of education, social education, social work, psychology, law, sociology and other social sciences, interested in sharing knowledge and experiences in this field.

The congress will be held both online and in person. The UNED will host the Congress at the Faculty of Education on 1 December and the Centro Carlos Santamaría of the UPV/EHU in Donostia-San Sebastián will host it on 2 December.

• Sra. Jo Dixon. Researcher and co-director of the Child Welfare Research Group in the Department of Social Policy and Social Work at the University of York, England
• Dra. Catherine Blaya. Senior Lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Education at the Côte d’Azur University in Nice. She is Lead Researcher at LASALE (Laboratoire Accrochage Scolaire et Alliances Educatives) and member of the Scientific Committee of the Observatory of the social, economic and technical impact of AI – Côte d’Azur University
• Dr. Joao Paulo Ferreira. Degree in Law and a PhD in Education Sciences from the University of Santiago de Compostela. He has been assistant professor at the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, as well as coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Education and president of the Pedagogical Council since 2017
• Sra. Johana Trasende. Diploma in Social Work from the UNED, a Master’s Degree in Gender Studies and Professional Development from the University of Seville, and a Postgraduate degree in Socio-educational Action with Children and Adolescents with Behavioural Disorders from the ISOS Foundation and the UNED
• Dr. Cristóbal Ruiz Román. Professor of Social Pedagogy in the Department of Theory and History of Education and MIDE at the University of Malaga, Spain. He lectures in the Degree in Social Education and in the Master’s Degree in Social Change and Educational Professions at the same University.
• Dra. Teresita Bernal Romero. PhD in Educational Theory and Social Pedagogy and a Master’s Degree in Educational Research and Innovation from the UNED, Spain. She holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical and Family Psychology from the Universidad Santo Tomás, Colombia.
• Dra. Verónica Regina Muller. PhD and lecturer at the State University of Maringá, Brazil. She is President of AESMAR- Association of Social Educators of Maringá and an educator in MNMMR- Movimento Nacional de Meninos e Meninas de Rua (National Movement of Street Boys and Girls).
• Dr. Jorge Fernández del Valle. Professor of Psychosocial Assistance in the Department of Psychology at the University of Oviedo.
• Sra. Ikhlas Seddik. Student of Social Education at the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea. She has been a promoter of the Programme for University Academic Success-Arrakasta, which aims to promote the academic success of young people in foster care and leaving the care system
• Sra María Andrea Incarnato. PhD and lecturer at the State University of Maringá, Brazil. She is President of AESMAR- Association of Social Educators of Maringá and an educator in MNMMR- Movimento Nacional de Meninos e Meninas de Rua (National Movement of Street Boys and Girls)
• Dra. Sandra Leopold Costàbile. PhD in Social Sciences, specialising in Social Work (University of the Republic, Uruguay), a Master’s degree in Social Work (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and University of the Republic).
